Description
The First Football Game Monument by Thomas Jay Warren.
Rutgers is famous for depicting the birthplace of college
football. This bronze sculpture was installed as a gift
from the Class of 1949. The sculptor Thomas Jay
Warren captures the action and suspense of that first game which was won by Rutgers 6 to 4.It is located at the end of the Scarlet Walk and a few years ago under coach Greg Schiano a tradition was started whereby 2 hours prior to the game a tunnel is formed by fans and cheerleaders and each player and coach touches the statue as they enter the stadium.
This sculpture depicts a Rutgers football
player during an intense play running down the field full of determination
