Happy Birthday America # 2 by Allen Beatty

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival takes place on the Mall each year for two weeks around Independence Day (July 4). On that holiday, the Capitol Fourth concert takes place in the late afternoon and early evening on the west lawn of the Capitol. This and other Independence Day celebrations on and near the Mall end after sunset with a fireworks display between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
Rather than going to the National Mall to watch the fireworks, we were advised to take the Metro over to Arlington and then walk down to the banks of the Potomac. It was great advice and a fabulous show.
