Inspired by by the "David Bowie Is" exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, the Broadway/Lafayette subway station is featuring an art installation sponsored by Spotify. The station was chosen because it was within walking distance of the Bowie apartment in the Nolita section of Manhattan.
On the lower level are various pictures and posters from Bowie's life and career. On the pedestrian level and the subject of this image are two different images of Bowie that have been spliced and then pasted to girders so that when viewed from the correct distance a full face image is seen. Very clever and well done.
I had recently been photographing a Bowie mural in Jersey City so I thought I would put the images in the same gallery as well as my Subway Gallery.
This image in the subway tribute is based upon a quote from John Guare on David Bowie's birth name David Jones......." He traveled with this cloak of invisibility-- nobody saw him. He just eradicated himself. I think he had complete access to David Jones."
